Card numbers, bank details, crypto wallets — nothing about your money belongs in a chat with someone you just met. No genuine person will ask.
Never share passwords
Not for “verification,” not to “prove trust,” not for any reason. No legitimate person or service asks for a password in conversation.
Watch for money requests
Emergencies, investments, gift cards, “just this once” — requests for money from someone you met online are the single most common scam pattern. Treat any such request as the end of the conversation.
Be wary of off-platform pushes
Pressure to move quickly to another app, click a link, or download something is a red flag worth trusting.
Protect Your Identity and Location
Keep locations vague
City is plenty. Avoid revealing your home address, workplace, school, or regular routine — and check that mail, ID badges, or landmarks aren’t visible on camera.
Be careful with usernames
Social media handles unlock far more about you than a video call does — your face, friends, history, and often your location. Share them slowly, if at all.
Audit your background
Before starting, glance at what’s behind you. A tidy neutral background is both better-looking and more private.
Assume anything can be captured
You can’t control the other person’s screen. Keep anything you wouldn’t want saved — information or imagery — out of the conversation.

Take “no” gracefully, drop subjects when asked, and leave conversations kindly. Adults only, mutual consent, mutual respect — that’s the entire social contract here, and the conversations are better for everyone when it holds.
When a Conversation Turns Wrong
- End it. You never need a reason to leave, and discomfort is reason enough. Trust your instincts — they’re usually early, not wrong.
- Block. Blocking prevents the same person from reaching you again. It takes one tap and requires no justification.
- Report. Reporting flags behavior that violates the guidelines — harassment, pressure for money or personal information, or anything involving minors. Reports protect the people who would have matched with that person next.
